(<em>Pun intented</em>) The Nazis believed that they were the UberMensch, the superior man. And they believed that all other races should be subservient to them and some should be erradicated for their unclean-ness. At the same time that they were pushing that belief the US was picking it&rsquo;s own SuperMan. Except he did not dominate those who were weaker than him, the exact opposite! He protected those who were weaker than him! He helped them. He is even kind to his enemies! He only kills when there is no other option. He wants to protect and he has hope that anyone can be saved, can be turned around. This was our image of a superior man. Not one who rolls over others, but one who uses his greater strength to protect and build up the weaker ones.</p> <h1 id="no-killing">No Killing? </h1><p>Superman does actually kill, it&rsquo;s an interesting distiction between him and Batman. Batman doesn&rsquo;t ever kill because he knows that he needs strict rules to keep himself in check. Superman doesn&rsquo;t kill because he believes that everyone can be saved. He has killed in a few scenarios where there was no other good option. And specifically he doesn&rsquo;t punch down. There&rsquo;s almost never a reason for him to kill because he is almost always MUCH stronger than his opponent, so he gives them mercy.</p> <h1 id="a-boring-hero">A Boring Hero </h1><p>People call Superman boring since he is pretty much purely good. He doesn&rsquo;t have dark, brooding eyes or a complicated relationship with justice. But what better fantasy can there be? What better Super man could there be? We all struggle with what&rsquo;s right and with doing what&rsquo;s right even if we can discern it! We all are too weak at times, and too strong at others. A relatable character can be great, but Superman isn&rsquo;t that! He&rsquo;s something more, something better! Something to aspire to! He&rsquo;s one of my favorite heroes for that very reason! I don&rsquo;t relate to him, but I want to be like him! To be strong enough to deter ANY threat, so strong that I don&rsquo;t have to kill them. I can disarm them and then give them a second chance! I can know what&rsquo;s right, and have the will to do it!</p> <h1 id="a-normal-guy">A Normal Guy </h1><p>His day job is as a reporter, he could pull an &ldquo;Ironman&rdquo; and tell the world that he&rsquo;s Superman, but he wants to live a normal life. Again separating him from the Nazi, or even most people&rsquo;s, idea for an UberMensch! If I gained his power and abilities, would I keep working my day job? Would I want to pretend that I was just a normal guy, deal with annoying bosses, commute to work everyday, and all the other things that come along with normal guy life! No!</p>
